Baseball - Thu, Apr. 10, 2014

Jackson College sophomore left handed pitcher Caleb Baragar has been named NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week.  Baragar threw two no hitters last week. Baragar threw all five innings, striking out five in a 10-0, five inning win over St. Clair County Community College on April 1st.  Then on Sunday, he threw seven no hitting innings striking out ten batters to lead the Jets to a 1-0 win over Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Baragar walked 5 batters in 12 innings with a 2-0 record for the week.  

Baseball - Wed, Feb. 26, 2014

The Kellogg Community College baseball team is ranked ninth in the first regular season NJCAA Division II baseball poll. The Bruins will kick off their season on Friday in Louisiana.  Grand Rapids Community College is tied for 20th in the poll. The Raiders kick off their 2014 campaign on Friday in Florida.

As the thermometer dives below zero again, one sign of spring was sighted today. The NJCAA released their Division II pre-season baseball poll. Kellogg Community College is ranked 10th in the poll. The Bruins finished last season with a 32-16 record.  Grand Rapids Community College is ranked 17th in the poll. The Raiders, who won the NJCAA Region XII Tournament and qualified for the National Tournament last year, finished the season with a 28-28 record.

A pair of Michigan Community College Athletic Association sophomore pitchers were selected on the third day of the Major League Baseball draft. Jackson Community College's Blake Higgins was taken in the 16th round today by the St. Louis Cardinals. The 6' 6" right hander pitched in just six games this season, starting three with a 2-0 record and two complete games.  He threw 23.2 innings, allowing seven hits, six runs, all earned, walking 18 walks and striking out 40 batters. He posted a 2.28 ERA on the season. He was taken on the 485th pick of the draft.
