Delta College Takes Home 2025-26 MCCAA Academic School of the Year
Delta College has earned MCCAA Academic School of the Year for the first time in program history! The annual academic honor—now in its sixth year— was created in 2021 to acknowledge the importance the association places on student-athletes being exceptional in the classroom. The award, now presented annually in conjunction with student-athlete academic honors, is determined by ranking each sport's GPA and assigning 100 points to the highest GPA, and descending point totals down the rankings. For example, if four schools compete in a sport, the best GPA gets 100 points, the second gets 75, the third gets 50, and the fourth gets 25.
This year, five of Delta's seven sports posted 3.09 or better GPAs with the NJCAA Division III National Champion women's soccer program notching a institution-best 3.49 GPA. Softball was next at 3.40, followed by women's basketball at 3.31, women's volleyball and 3.21 and baseball at 3.09. No GPA was lower than a 2.77, allowing Delta teams to remain at or near the top of their respective sport's academic standings.
Last year's winner, Kirtland Community College, finished as the 2025-26 runner-up, while North Central Michigan College checked in third overall. Mott Community College was fourth followed by Jackson College to round out the top five academic schools in this year's calculations.
The MCCAA congratulates the Delta College athletic department for earning this year's honor and acknowledges all association schools for a remarkable year in the classroom.
