Women's Cross Country starts on Friday at Skippers Invite

The MCCAA women's cross country season will begin on Friday as St. Clair County Community College host the Skipper Invite in Marysville, MI. The meet will be the first time teams in the MCCAA have competed since March 13, when the NJCAA stopped all activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The meet will be different this year due to restrictions put in place for the pandemic. There will be no spectators allowed at the meet on Friday. Also, athletes, coaches and staff will have to go through screening before leaving their campuses. The meet is one of three MCCAA meets this season. The others are hosted by Jackson College and Kirtland Community College. The MCCAA/Region XII championship meet will be held October 31 at Grand Woods Park in Lansing, MI. 

The MCCAA championship should be wide open this season as Lansing, who has won eight championships in a row and 17 of the last 18, has suspended sports for the fall. In last year's championship, Muskegon CC was second, Grand Rapids CC was third and St. Clair County CC was fourth. 

Across the conference, Ancilla College returns to cross country for the first tim since 2014 with three sophomore on the roster, while Grand Rapids CC has six sophomore, including All-Region, All-MCCAA Kiah Becker (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Northern). Jackson College lists four sophomores on their roster, while Kellogg CC has two sophomore on the squad. Kirtland CC has just two runners right now including one sophomore, while Macomb CC has three sophomores on the roster. Mott CC returns two runners from last seasons team, while Muskegon has two sophomores, including All-Region, All-MCCAA runner Raegan Lockhart (Muskegon/Reeths-Puffer). New coach Josh Lees at Oakland CC has two sophomore runners, while host St. Clair County CC has three sophomores with returning All-Region, All-MCCAA runners Caitlyn Rogers (North Branch, MI/North Branch) and Izabella Gowan (Macomb, MI/Dakota). Wayne County CCD has an all freshman line up this season. 

This meet will kick off the 95th season for the MCCAA. The MCCAA started competiton with he 1926-27 season.
